Laboratorium Pieśni (Song Laboratory) is the group of female singers from Tri-City (Poland), created in 2013.Using traditional, polyphonic singing they perform songs from all over the world, mainly: Ukraine, Balkans, Poland, Belarus, Georgia, Scandinavia and many other places. They sing a capella as well as with shaman drums and other ethnic instruments (shruti box, kalimba, flute, gong, zaphir and koshi chimes, singing bowls, rattles etc.), creating a new space in a traditional song, adding voice improvisations, inspired by sounds of nature, often intuitive, wild and feminine.
The traditional songs are often brought from their source - different regions of Poland, Europe and world, by the members of the group - having their unique history and evolving in the course of work. Finally they are performed in a new form - traditional or enriched.
~They won the TRYTON PRIZE on FAMA Festival 2014 for the greatest artistic personality of the festival~
Laboratorium Pieśni, apart from singing and participation in festivals, is also conducting field researches, in order to find new-old music: trip to Albania - polyphonic songs (2014), research in Kashubian region - funeral songs (2013/2014), research in Lower Silesia region - carol singers rituals (winter 2013).
The group is also creating theatre performances, where they are using traditional songs to tell stories about disappearing rites: 'Pory Roku' (Seasons) 2013, 'Puste Noce - Pieśni, które już się kończą' (Empty Nights - Songs that have come to an end) 2014.Type your paragraph here.

The dance is a most elegant and mesmerizing form of expression for this gypsy-at-heart. Her repertoire of dance styles tells stories of places near and far, ancient and modern. Lifelong training in contemporary western dance styles only enriches her understanding and appreciation of the richly meaningful and mysterious dance styles of the Orient. Her stylistic span can be described as both “modern” and “tribal.” Her chief specialty is American Tribal Style – a formalized modern fusion of Classical Indian dance, Spanish Flamenco dance, North African tribal dance, and Middle Eastern bellydance which has a group-oriented improvisational structure. Known as the Fire Maiden, Jerikaye is one of the pioneers of fire dancing on the Gulf Coast, ever drawn to the hypnotizing flame in an effort to truly exude grace under fire. She specializes in fire poi – a form of object manipulation which originated with the Maori people of New Zealand, migrated to the Pacific islands, and then to the West Coast of the United States in the twentieth century. She specializes in fusing this form with modern tribal dance, also utilizing other fire props in a variety of creative ways including fans, fingers, torches, wands, etc. She is a performing artist, teacher, creative director, event coordinator.
The founders of Laboratorium Pieśni are Alina Jurczyszyn & Kamila Bigus. Field researchers, artists and producers, they bring a unique talent to this spirit-guided work. “These women have an incredible presence.” An American who traveled to Scotland to attend one of their workshops shared her experience with us. “It is hard to explain, but I was transformed by this workshop.” A world traveler, she shared that she had never found anything like it and told us, “I will travel WHEREVER you hold this workshop in the U.S. Definitely. I will be there.”
Alina (an Academy for Theater Practices 'Gardzienice' graduate) and Kamila (an Stanislaw Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdansk graduate,) are leading the project called 'Akademia Laboratorium Pieśni (Academy of Song Laboratory) on the University of Gdansk, as well as organizing and leading workshops of traditional singing in other places. Laboratorium Pieśni is also a co-organizer of the festival Etnowiosnowisko.
Using body, mind and emotional exercises, the weekend workshop begins with an intense release of the normal, day-to-day world as you learn to delve deeply into honoring the sacred voice that is yours, and its place in this world.
Through the use of traditional songs they have uncovered in the Baltic region, they will also thoroughly explore:
•Traditional polyphonic singing methods
•The phenomenon of voice- emission, breath training, voice projection
•An awakening of natural human musicality (the musical sensations of earth are written in our dna)
•The incredibly important but hard to obtain partner & group activities that build
- State of Mindfullness
- Respect and Responsibility for the shared work
- Mutual Support
Plus you’ll learn how to exploit the potential of EVERY participant in your own group, not just those with so called fabulous voices. This practice of raising our voices as one is meant for every member of your community.
